How this works for case managers

1. Filter to what fits

Rent ceiling, gender of house, private or shared room, SSI accepted, near transit, same-day hospital discharge, Spanish spoken.

2. Check the confirmation date

Every home shows when the operator last confirmed its vacancies. Anything past 14 days is flagged — call before you rely on it.

3. Send a referral inquiry

Reach the operator with your callback number, needed move-in date and beds needed. Minimum necessary only — never any protected health information.

4. Print a shortlist

Shortlist three homes and print a one-page comparison to hand to the tenant or their family.

What this board is — and is not

An independent living is a privately owned and operated home providing shared housing for adults with disabilities, including mental illness, and others who benefit from shared living. Residents are tenants: they sign rental agreements, pay monthly rent, and live independently. Independent livings are unlicensed because they do not provide care and supervision. They cannot accept or retain a tenant who needs help with activities of daily living, medication management or storage, mobility transfers, bathing, hygiene, or arranging medical care.

ILA membership requires meeting ILA Quality Standards and passing an annual Peer Review and Accountability Team home visit. Membership is not a licence and not a government inspection. Verify every detail with the operator before a move-in.
